The plight of homeless and displaced animals is astronomical. Shelters today are overcrowded. Domestic animals are left on the roadside to fend for themselves. Pet shops and breeders continue to sell animals to the general public without regard to conditions or quality of life after they leave their doors. It is up to all of us to make this world a better place for domestic animals.

I just got off the phone with my friend Donna at Birdstuff, and she wanted me to help alert all parrot people I know of yet another preventable pet parrot loss one of her favorite clients just experienced. Her friend had put out her beautiful, fragrant holiday candles on display to enjoy for the first time last night and hours later her son's baby cockatiel died. Then this morning her 7 month old Caique passed away at the vet.
"Would you please stop that? I've told you a thousand times not to poke your nose there!"
Sorry, that's Hank bugging me. He's a pushy border collie and husky mix -- making him a really smart and really, REALLY stubborn canine.
He's anxious to tell folks National Pet Week is May 4-10. It's a great time to recognize the incredible benefits pets bring to our lives and refuel efforts to support local animal shelters and humane societies.
