The Animal Welfare League of Arlington (AWLA), the official animal shelter for Arlington, Virginia, rescues animals and shelters pets of all kinds including dogs and puppies, cats and kittens, bunny rabbits, birds, gerbils, hamsters, guinea pigs, rats and more. Various breeds of dogs including boxers, labs, beagles, small and toy breeds, and mixed breeds are often available for adoption.
The Arlington animal shelter is a great humane society to visit when considering pet adoption. We aren't just your local animal shelter or dog pound, we will help you find the right pet and understand how to care for your new companion, and are always available to offer advice even after your adoption is complete.
The Arlington animal shelter adopts pets to residents of Virginia, Washington D.C. and Maryland.

The Mission
Since 1944, the Animal Welfare League of Arlington has been committed to the humane treatment of animals and to the promotion of animal welfare. The League:
provides temporary care and refuge for homeless and suffering animals;
places animals in loving, responsible homes;
provides animal control services to Arlington County;
educates the public and provides a wide variety of community services
