Second Chance is a rescue for cats testing positive for feline leukemia. I started this rescue in Sept. when I found a litter of stray kittens all testing positive. The vet told me they would have to be euthinized b/c no-one would take leukemia positive cats. I couldn't do that! It was then that I decided to start my own rescue. My husband built a 120 sq. ft cedar shed enclosed in a 600sq. ft kennel where the cats have plenty of food, bedding, toys, love and medical attention. I have recently gotten non-profit status, but am just starting trying to get donations and fundraising so my husband and I have paid everything out of pocket thus far ($4,000). In the past 4 months, I have rescued 52 cats/kittens that were stray, including a pregnant cat who just gave birth to 9 kittens in my bathroom the night after rescuing her. (mom was negative for leukemia) I currently have 12 luek. positives, and a few more on the way. When I find a stray that tests negative, I have the cat spayed/ nuetered ( kept in a diff. area than my pos. cats) and then they are adopted out. I am trying to adopt out my luekemia cats as well, but it is a little more difficult being they must remain indoors and live with no other cats. I have a friend who has participated in making snuggles for years and said that I may be able to get some donated for my rescue kitties as well. Please consider this request, my kitties would love it! Also consider adopting a special needs cat.
