Our Featured Pet: MacARTHUR!
Hi! My name is MacArthur but all my friends call me Mac. I've been around the block a few times and life hasn't always been kind to me. I've had some close calls in my time but the worst was when I found myself locked up at animal control. It was a pretty scary place, especially for an older gentleman like me. I just laid in the back of my cage and shook especially when I heard them say my time was almost up! I always made sure to wag my tail when they talked to me so they would know I was sweet and friendly. Then, just as I had almost given up, the kind rescue folks came along and saved me. Whew! My foster home is the best place I've ever been- did I die and go to heaven? First, I got to go to the doggie spa and have a bath and get shaved down. It sure felt good to get all that matted hair off of me! Then I had a dental and the nice vet pulled out some teeth because they were abscessed. Boy did they hurt! I'm feeling much better now and I get to lay around the house and sleep on a soft bed as much as I want. What a life! My foster mom says that she is looking for a special family for me who will always be kind to me and make my golden years the best of my life!
News
Our next adoption day will be November 29, 2008 at the Marietta Petsmart, 1285 Johnson Ferry Road, from 11:00 am until 4:00 pm.If you are interested in seeing a particular dog at one of our adoption days, please call or email us to make sure the pup will be present as not all the dogs come to every adoption. Please note that we also do private adoptions out during the month on a scheduled basis to facilitate the needs of families wanting to adopt. Please feel free to call or e-mail with any questions. Please note we are in desperate need of volunteers for rescue. We particularly need committed individuals and families willing to be fosters. Please note our emphasis on committed as we really need serious and committed families who are not going to flake out within the first 24 or 48 hours because a pup had an accident in a strange new environment or barked. These pups need our help and we need serious, committed, responsible people who are genuinely willing to help them. You may also consider sponsoring a rescue even if you cannot adopt. Any help you can give to the breed is greatly appreciated and your time. Your time, money and mileage may be tax deductible. Please give us a call or send us an email to: cocker4you@bellsouth.net.
Please Help Our Special Needs Cocker Spaniels!
WE ARE IN NEED OF DONATIONS FOR OUR SPECIAL NEEDS PUPS.
We have had 170+ heartworm positive pups in the last five years. Prior to that, CSRG treated six maybe seven pups for heartworm disease in any 12-month period, so the last few years have been extraordinarily stressful in every possible aspect, including and especially, financially. We would like to say thank you to those kind souls who have given donations to help treat our many heartworm positive pups recently. We are extremely grateful for your generosity and support. If you would like to contribute to our heartworm fund or to our Special Needs Funds, as several of our rescues have had major surgery recently, you can make a tax-deductible donation through PayPal by clicking on the tab below.
Please consider doing your online shopping by going through the iGIVE.com website. It has 475 stores/shops/merchants (like HSN, Lands End, Drugstore.com, QVC, JC Penney, Petsmart, Petco, Walmart, Spiegel, Barnes and Noble, Ebay, Verizon Wireless and more) at which we all frequently shop online. All you have to do is click on the link above and register with an email address and little else. A percentage (ranging from one-half of one percent to 27%,depending on the merchant) of your purchase will be donated to CSRG.
Who We Are
Cocker Rescue of Georgia was started in 1991 by Susan Roman and Sue Kelly, due to the HIGH number of cockers being found in Georgia shelters and also a large number of cockers in puppy mill and backyard breeder situations. There was a definite need for a cocker rescue in Georgia. We are a 501(c)(3)nonprofit organization and all persons involved with our organization are volunteers. They are not paid for their time, gas, dog food, or any other expenses.
Adopting a Friend
Our new adoption fees are $250.00 for girls and $225.00 for boys, which partially covers the cost of having the pup spayed/neutered, all shots, rabies, grooming, heartworm checks and making sure he or she is internal parasite-free. The pup is also started on a flea preventative. There is an adoption application to fill out, contract and release form. We screen all dogs to determine disposition and test them with men, women, and children before an adoption takes place. We do require that our pups are kept as inside pets. We do accept owner turn-ins with a $50.00 donation.
Note to Potential Adopters
It is important to understand that dogs coming into rescue have either been separated from their owners and picked up as a stray; are owner turn-ins; rescued out of backyard breeder situations or from abusive or neglectful owners. Most are traumatized, unsure of themselves and/or of new people and have experienced a great deal of instability over a period of several weeks or months. We ask, when adopting a dog out of rescue, that you have realistic expectations and give yourself and your new cocker friend the opportunity to get to know one another and become familiar with each other's routines--AT LEAST TWO WEEKS. Unfortunately, some adopters are bringing a pup back after adopting within 24 hours because of the most trivial reasons--because the pup is being a pup and doing what pups do, jumping on the sofa or running under the porch... It is important to understand that these pups are finding themselves in yet another new situation and need to be given the time and the chance to feel safe, comfortable and secure. They will not come to you perfect, but with time, patience, love, training and just flat-out being given a real chance to make the transition to your household, they can turn out to be the perfect friend for you!
