Calendars for sale The 2009 HART Kitty calendars are now on sale. These make great Holiday gifts and stocking stuffers. Enjoy the adorable faces of former HART kitties throughout the year! Calendars are available at the HART shelter, or by sending an Email to HART. Art Benefit Local artist and loyal HART supporter, Ruth Gorton, is hosting the 3rd Annual Art Benefit for Preble Street Resource Center and HART. When you purchase a painting between now and December 15th, 50% of your purchase price (excluding sales tax and shipping, if applicable) is donated in your name to the above non-profit organization of your choice, and is fully tax deductible by you. The Animal Rescue Site is hosting this special challenge for eligible shelter and rescue groups. Organizations with the most votes could receive one of several grants, including a grand prize of $25,000! Thanks to our sponsors! A great time was had by all who attended HART 's Litterbox Ball on Saturday evening, October 25th. What a fun way to support the shelter - by shopping the live and silent auctions! Open for Tours Next Open House: December 6
The shelter is open for drop-in tours and adoptions on the first Saturday of every month. Please come by with your friends and family any time between 11:00 am and 3:00 pm on these dates to tour the shelter, visit with the cats or speak with a shelter representative. We need your support! HART is a volunteer organization that provides a safe refuge to hundreds of homeless cats each year. We rely primarily on the support of individual donors to help us rescue and provide shelter for these innocent animals. Please help the shelter cover the costs of food, veterinary care, supplies, and other expenses by sending a donation. We must also raise significant funding to finish paying for our new shelter building. You can help by sending a donation to HART's Capital Campaign. Please let us know if you would like your donation to go to the capital campaign (shelter building), or to operational expenses (food, medical care, etc.) Mail all checks to: HART, P.O. Yoda and Bouncer are two very special cats that need to find a nice, quiet, loving home. They are best buddies that truly love each other - they sleep together and spend time grooming each other - and we want to keep them together. They were surrendered by their owner due to financial circumstances and they are very sad and a little depressed at living at a shelter. YOU can help raise funds for HART... ...by simply grocery shopping at Shaw's! Shaw's has very graciously agreed to give HART 1% of all the receipts we can gather from their stores. All you need to do is save your grocery receipts from Shaw’s and send them to HART. Every time you shop at Shaw’s and give your receipt to HART, you help us to buy food and to supply veterinary care for our cats. You might also consider collecting receipts from friends, family and co-workers. This is an ongoing fundraiser, so please keep saving and sending HART your Shaw’s receipts. Receipts can be left in the mailbox at our shelter on Range Road in Cumberland (directions, below) or mailed to:

...by saving empty ink jet and laser printer cartridges! Instead of tossing these in the trash and hurting the environment, they can now be brought to HART where we will turn them into cash for the shelter. Please note that we can only accept HP (not "HP compatible"), Dell and Lexmark printer cartridges, no other brands can be accepted. The original manufacturer's label must still be on the cartridge and it must not have been previously recycled. If you're unsure whether your cartridges meet this criteria, bring them to HART anyhow. WANTED: VOLUNTEERS! Do you love cats? Do you have two or three hours to spare one or two mornings a week or every other week? Is your significant other allergic to cats, but you’d would love to spend time with some wonderful, beautiful, friendly felines? Are you retired and have some extra time on your hands? Would you like to fulfill a passion that you have for animals? Would you like to be part of a great volunteer organization and give something back to the community? If so, HART needs your help!!! Our cats are not confined in cages, but are free to roam nice big rooms that have places for them to jump, climb, explore, and bond with the other cats. It’s a fun place!! Also seeking volunteers to... ...help with bottle redemption and many other tasks:. DONATION JAR COLLECTION: We are in need of new donation boxes, decorated with lots of kitties, to put into area stores AND someone to collect from those boxes at least once a month then deliver the proceeds to HART. TRANSPORTERS FOR SPAY/NEUTER APPOINTMENTS: We need volunteers to take our kitties to the vet for their spay/neuter appointments. We go to Dr. Beury in N. Bridgton (1 hour from shelter) and to Poland Animal Hospital in Poland (30 minutes from shelter). If interested, please contact Joann Wallace at 233-8101. SHELTER CLEANERS: We are always in need of help to keep our shelter clean and to put ample food and water down for the kitties. The cleaning teams work mornings, 7 days a week. Kitten season has grown from spring through fall to all year long. This is a fun and rewarding experience for the entire family.
