Maddie’s Fund awarded Dane County Humane Society a first year grant of $297,000 in August, 2008 to increase adoptions and spay/neuter surgeries. As adoption and spay/neuter goals are achieved, Maddie's Fund will provide animal welfare groups and private veterinarians with more than $900,000 to save all of the healthy and treatable shelter dogs and cats in Dane County over the next five years. Losing a pet can be unexpected and stressful, but microchipping is a solution to ensure happy reunions. DCHS is pleased to announce that microchipping services will now be available at the shelter during all open hours! The cost is $30 for dogs and only $15 for cats. DCHS hosts a Pet Loss Support Group the third Thursday of each month from 6:30pm to 8:00pm at the main shelter. This group is intended to help people deal with or prepare for the loss of a companion animal.
