Homeward Bound is dedicated to rescuing homeless and unwanted animals. We are a non-profit, 501(c) 3-tax exempt, no-kill
dog rescue and placement organization based in Minnesota. Although our focus is primarily on rescuing dogs, we also
rescue cats, kittens, & other animals. We are an independent organization and depend solely on
adoption fees, fundraisers, and donations to operate. We receive NO government support. Homeward Bound has been in operation since
1991 & has placed over 12,000
dogs in loving homes. We try our best to match the dogs with the needs, wants, personalities, and lifestyles of potential adopters to
ensure a healthy, happy, & permanent home. All Homeward Bound dogs must live indoors. Dogs are social pack animals by nature and we want them to be able to have all of the companionship,
love, & attention they deserve, as well as a chance to bond with the family.
We rescue all types of dogs, ranging from small to large breeds. Roughly 40% of the dogs we rescue are purebred while the other 60% are mixed breeds. The age of the dogs varies from puppies to adults. We will tell you about each dog's history, personality, & behavior, including whether or not they are good which children and other pets, their exercise needs, & other important information.
Each week, new dogs are rescued and we hold pet adoptions every Saturday at a Petco location from 11:30a.m. - 4p.m. in the Twin Cities area. Please see our Adoption Dates and Locations for more information.
LOST DOG! Help! Pepper the Doxie/Terrier was last seen at the Minnehaha Falls Dog Park in Minneapolis on November
19th. She was wearing an oatmeal colored sweater with a black harness over it with the Homeward Bound tag on it, though she may
have wiggled out of the sweater and possibly the haress. If you spot her, please call 612-270-4244 or 612-270-2007. Thanks!
DEAR SANTA PAWS,
We've all been nice dogs here so we're crossing our paws that you won't mind giving some gifts to a group of needy rescue dogs. We don't have much in rescue and we're so appreciate of anything we get. What we would really like are dog food, dog treats (milkbones are the favorites!), pressed rawhides (the natural ones, the colored ones give us upset tummies), and rawhide flips. We would love to have some new collars of the medium to large sizes, like 16-24 inches, with the metal buckles (we like to chew through the plastic buckles and our foster parents get mad) and some new leashes. Our foster parent's would love some puppy pads and some shampoo and grooming spray. We don't always smell our best when we come from pounds but we don't always have enough shampoo to really scrub us down. We love when we're clean, its much more fun to get dirty that way! We love toys too. Our favorites are the kongs and the rubber tire toys...they last longest. You know what we'd like most of all Santa Paws? We'd like to have homes for Christmas. We'd love to curl around the Christmas tree with a new family to love. If we can't have that, these things make our stay in rescue more bearable. It takes our mind of being homeless if we have nice things to play with, eat, and chew on. Thank you!
XOXO Slobber Slobber Slobber,
The dogs spending Christmas in rescue
POSE YOUR PET WITH SANTA: On December 6th and 13th there will be a pose-your-pet-with-Santa fundraiser in which a polaroid picture can be taken of your pet(s) with Santa! It costs $8.95 for a picture and a percentage of that will go towards Homeward Bound (other rescues will also receive a percentage). The fundraiser on the 6th will take place at the Fridley Petco and on the 13th it will be help at the Maple Grove Petco.
DONATIONS NEEDED FOR SILENT AUCTION! On December 13th we will be having a silent auction held at the Maple Grove Petco to help raise funds for homeless animals. If you have any items you'd like to donate to the silent auction, please call Cheri at 612-759-8982. Don't have anything to donate but still want to help out? Consider purchasing a gift card or putting together a basket of goodies! If you have questions, please call Cheri at 612-759-8982.
PLEASE KEEP HB IN MIND WHEN YOU SHOP AT SAVER'S/GOODWILL, CLEAN YOUR HOUSE, ETC - WE NEED GENTLY USED ITEMS!: We need just about everything you can imagine but particularly leashes, collars, dog sweaters, dog toys, wire dog crates, plastic dog houses, and any and all kinds of blankets (towels, sleeping bags, baby blankets, sheets, comforters, etc.) Please see our wish list for more information. Any of these items can be dropped off at the Petcos in Fridley, Maple Grove, Maplewood, and Burnsville. Thanks!
AFFORDABLE VET CLINICS, BOARDING KENNELS, GROOMERS & OBEDIENCE CLASSES? We are in the process of putting a list together of recommended vet clinics, obedience classes, groomers, and boarding kennels and we would love your input! Please send Megan an email at homewardbounddogrescue@yahoo.com if you have a favorite vet, kennel, or obedience class that not only is affordable, but also does a fantastic job. Please include the name of the place, phone number, and city/address. Feel free to send any other pertinent information as well. Thanks!
