Show You Care By Sending
AHS Holiday Cards This Year

Celebrate the season and show your friends and family you care about homeless animals by sending Asheville Humane Society holiday cards this year. For the first time, we are selling holiday cards to benefit the homeless animals in Buncombe County. The whimsical, colorful designs capture the spirit of Asheville as seen through the eyes of well-known, local animal artist Angela Alexander, whose work can be viewed and purchased at downtown Asheville's Woolworth Walk. Angela graciously donated her time and talent to create these fun portraits of pets from our own community. Proceeds from the cards benefit the stray and homeless animals that arrive at our shelter doors each day. Each box holds 12 cards; 3 cards of 4 unique designs. Click the PayPal button below to purchase your boxes or call Troy Salsbury at (828) 236-3885 x 306.

october is adopt-a-Shelter-dog month
Meet Mabel!
Winner of our Pet Photo Contest!

Thank you to the 465 online voters who helped select our spokesdog for our 2009 Adopt-A-Dog month next October. We’re happy to announce Mabel as the winner. She is a 3-year-old female labrador/shepherd mix who loves her nyla bone and munches on apples. Mabel was adopted at a PetSmart adoption day and she shares her home with Sarah Sepelwich and Kevin Young. They believed she should win because: "Mabel has that face and that personality that can put a smile on anyone. She started out as a little puppy in a shelter, without a home, and quickly became my best buddy. She is an all-around sweetheart, as well as a beautiful young lady.”
Congratulations to Sarah and Kevin, and of course, Mabel! Thank you to Otis and Jazz for providing stiff competition in the cuteness factor. Special thank you to our friends at Blaze-N-Skyy, Bandanas Mobile Grooming and Kelly Giezentanner Photographs for providing prizes for the contest. We also thank all the entrants who made our first Adopt-A-Dog Pet Photo Contest a smash. Perhaps next year, your canine companion can vie for top billing as the 2010 Adopt-A-Dog month spokesdog. It’s not too early to start campaigning!

Happy Tails - Piewackett
Hi! My husband and I wanted to send you this e-mail to thank you for introducing us to the fattest, furriest, and most spirited cat we've ever met.
Almost two years ago, we saw a picture of a black, scruffy, wide-eyed kitten named Piewackett on your web site, and I convinced my husband we should come to your Cat's Pajamas adoption event to see if he was the cat for us...
Read the rest of Piewackett's story and other happy tails!
