Welcome to Dachshund Rescue NW (DRNW) & Dachshund
Club of Spokane's (DCS) new web site. We update this web site often, usually weekly, so be sure to check back often.
For information on our upcoming, monthly wiener events please read this
page below, bottom left side, for more details.
DRNW always has several rescued wiener doggies needing new homes at all
times so see below for that info too and help us adopt out homeless dogs instead of buying pups please! Thanks.
This video above is entitled "Copper and Murphy In Charge." Thanks for watching our video. Taken Summer

Welcome to the new home of Dachshund Rescue NW (DRNW) and the Dachshund Club of Spokane, Washington state, USA!
Dachshund Rescue NW equals "Happy wiener dogs to great, forever families!"
DRNW Mission Statement:
1. To educate the public about controlling the pet population through responsible spaying
and neutering of their pets.
2. To let the public know about the history of the Dachshund breed about how they are
hunting dogs and all that entails. The education also includes that this breed is not always suitable for every home especially
those with very young children or those without secure, fenced yards.
3. To let everone know that we usually have a dog club event once a month for the
Dachshund Club of Spokane members like the Wiener Dog Races, potluck picnics, attendance in four area parades and holiday
parties for the dogs, Dachshund Training Days, etc., and use those events to get our homeless wieners out in public so they
can be adopted to forever families.
2008: DRNW has adopted out
50 happy
dogs as of Nov. 27,
so this
will be a new record year for us in wiener adoptions!
Thanks to everyone for saving a life
by adopting instead of buying a puppy!
2007: DRNW
adopted out 38 happy dogs this year.
2006:
DRNW adopted out 30 happy dogs, one horse and six
cats also this year. (We helped less critters this year due to the
Director's major car wreck, but
up to full speed again in 2007 for us!)
2005: DRNW
adopted 47 happy dogs, a new record for us!
2004:
DRNW adopted out 42 dogs, a new record for us!
2003: DRNW
adopted out 35 dogs and four horses
and one cat, a new
record for us!
2002:
DRNW adopted out 33 dogs, a new record for us!
(We did not keep really keep good
records of how many needy wieners we helped over the years before then, but we are guessing we have help to place well over
450+ dogs, some horses and cats since 1991. We have only had eight dogs returned since we
started rescuing as we choose forever homes for our rescues and those eight were also successfully placed in their forever
homes the second time around.)
Did you know we turn away over 100 to 150 Dachshunds each year and we can
only help between 40 to 50 dogs? Plus that is just in this area? Please consider adopting a homeless dog instead
of breeding yet another litter of pups that we might have to rescue later on. Thanks! UPDATE 2008: We are
on pace to turn away 150 to 200 Dachshunds this year alone. Please think twice before breeding yet another litter of
dogs that may be unwanted down the road.

October 2008 Events:
Well wieners did not take home the grand prize but some funny costumes won again this year. At
NW Seed & Pets, Jeanette with Puppers waddling as a duck won third place. If you have not seen that duck waddling
then you have missed something. If I remember right a llama dressed up as a crow with an owner as a scarecrow was second
and four dogs were dressed up as the main characters from the Wizard of Oz.
At Petco North later on Carolyn and her african headhunters hunting a zebra won third place.
Mind you Tara was painted up as the zebra with acrylic paint by me. I used to enter my "zebra" at horse
shows for costume classes and have painted those zebra stripes on critters for years. And Jeanette and her duck won
second place again with poor little Puppers waddling around. First place was a cat with fairy wings.
Congrats to all the club members who went and had some fun, but next year we are thinking of doing our
own costume contest and Happy Halloweenie Party at the dog club so we get more folks coming out with their dogs in October.
Watch for this event in 2010.
November 2008 Events:
November 22: The popular Dachshund Training Days and Wiener Social Hour. This one is very well
attended each year so we are doing it again. Bring some munchies and your dog to learn a few things. Cost is $5
per dog to help pay for the building rental for the day. Helpers to help clean up afterwards are always appreciated
too.
This will be held at the Lilac City Dog Training Club at 1612 E Houston in North Spokane, two blocks
north of Francis and 16 blocks east of Division on the south side of the street in a metal building.
Time is from 1:00 p.m. to 5:00 p.m. officially but some stay later then that visiting of course.
The actual training time runs from 1:00 to 2:00 p.m. and then the social time starts at 2:00 p.m. until whenever.
And I will have my trusty toenail clippers handy so if you need your dog's
toenails clipped then catch me and that cost is $5 per dog to benefit the rescue. For those folks who always volunteer
I am happy to clip their nails for free.
December 2008
Events:
The Sixth Annual Holiday
Wienerfest Party to Benefit Dachshund Rescue NW will be held at the Lilac City Dog Training Club again on Sunday, December
7th. The time will be 1:00 p.m. to around 5:00 p.m. with some folks staying later and visiting of course.
Carolyn and I are still
planning this one again so stay tuned for details. It will be a potluck as always and your dogs need to come zoom and
socialize as always. There will be some dog games and some other fun stuff as we find some neat things folks can
do with their dogs.
Other small breeds are
always welcome to come but please plan on cleaning up after your own dog. We need folks to help set us before the event
and clean up that evening after we are done.
Some samples of the fun
dog games below for prizes:
1. Howling contest 2. Dog from furthest away 3. Holiday Costume Contest
-get out your holiday finest for your dog! 4. Bobbing for hot dogs
5. Best Trick
And donations are always
welcome to help us cover the building rental cost plus help in the mission of saving homeless Dachshunds each year.
And I will have my trusty
toenail clippers handy so if you need your dog's toenails clipped then catch me and that cost is $5 per dog to benefit the
rescue. For those folks who always volunteer I am happy to clip their nails for free.
It
is that time of year again!
Your
$20 in club dues are now due to Margo Mossburg, PO Box 1383, Airway Heights, WA, 99001. Thanks! To those folks
who are always volunteering your club dues are free.

Our rescue's mascot is Bad Baby Bogart, below. He is also a rescue that we decided
to keep as our rottenly spoiled dog buddy. Click Bad Baby's photo below to see his large web site with
his funny stories and dog photos of his wiener adventures since we were blessed with him in our lives to represent all homeless
wieners at our dog events.
