New clinic spaceFCCO Opens a new Free-Standing Spay/Neuter Clinic
FCCO now has a free-standing spay/neuter clinic in Portland in addition to our ongoing mobile program. The surgery suite has four surgery tables allowing us to have an additional doctor performing spays thereby increasing our efficiency. This is an exciting step for our organization and the feral cats who need our services. The demand for our compassionate services outstrips our capacity in all the cities we serve. We will grow from holding 45 clinics in 2007 to 90 clinics in 2009, and many more in the years to come, to provide a level of service that our community desperately needs.

A Record-Breaking Year
2008 was a record breaking year for surgeries - we spayed/neutered 4276 cats! And, as exciting, on November 16th while holding a clinic in Portland we neutered our 35,000th cat! This cat joins so many other feral and stray cats that we were able to help with the incredible support of so many people. We would not be able to help a single cat without our volunteers and donors, but together we have helped so many. . We look forward to seeing you!

Tips for Keeping Outdoor Cats Comfortable in Cold Temperatures
1. Provide shelter. If the cats won't go in your garage or other existing shelter, consider putting a hole in the side of a rubber storage bin and adding straw. With the lid on and placed out of the wind, cats can keep warm in bitter temperatures. Remember to locate the shelter away from any food source as cats will not rest in an area that may draw predators.

2. Provide extra food. Animals burn calories to warm their bodies. In cold temperatures additional food should be offered as a source of energy.

3. Provide water throughout the day. A bowl of water will freeze within a couple hours in our current temperatures. Either place a heat source under the dish or replace it as it freezes. In general, cats do not eat snow and those that do can not eat enough to prevent dehydration.
