To Our Valued Users and Friends: As you know our Beirut.com website has been down since July 11, 2008. A false web page appeared on or about July 23, 2008 pretending to be our site. We did not believe initially that it would take us long to drive away the pirates and resume control. Unfortunately it did, and so far we have been unsuccessful. It is therefore incumbent upon us to report to you what happened and what we are trying to do about it: On or about July 11, 2008, the domain name beirut.com was stolen from the domain name registrar eNom and transferred to SRSPlus. The domain name theft occurred by exploiting a security and procedural loop hole at eNom. eNom has so far been unwilling to acknowledge this exploit and as a result our persistent efforts to restore the domain name to our control are being further delayed. Obviously this is an act of piracy and the persons who perpetrated this and subsequent acts are pirates and thieves. We shall refer to them herein as "pirates". The breach in secuity did not occur from our end and the servers hosting the "real" beirut.com web and mail services are still under our control. However, since the control of the domain name now rests with the pirates (enabled by the domain name registras), they have managed to setup a series of websites and a new mail service now available at http://www.beirut.com masquerading as the "real" beirut.com. They have offered a mail service sign-up procedure that will enable you to sign up for a new @beirut.com e-mail address. Since the pirates are persons who act in bad faith, We urge you not to sign up to or use their services. We will assume no liability for the misuse of the mail accounts by said pirates as they may phish for information from you by reading your e-mail and misuse your identities, usernames, and passwords for illegal acts. Up to July 29, 2008, original and "real" beirut.com mailboxes continued to receive e-mails and said e-mails are still available on our servers. if you have not retrieved your e-mail yet, please retrieve them using an e-mail client such as Outlook or Eudora using the following configuration: username: Your username is your e-mail address without "@beirut.com" (e.g. if your e-mail address is name@beirut.com, your username is name) If you encounter any trouble using this service, please feel free to contact us at info@beirut.com or cntact us at +961.1.348120. Rest assured that the return of beirut.com to its rightful owners and control will happen. The correct measures to resolve this situation are being taken and it is only a question of time. We value your loyalty and appreciate your patience. Sincerely yours, Ziad Mugraby |
