All,
With many thanks to staff,
board members and volunteers who contributed articles, attached is our Fall 2008
newsletter. With the cost of printing
and mailing, we are sending this one via email and do hope you enjoy the
articles and information it contains.
As the year draws to a close,
we can never thank everyone who supports us enough, but please know that we are
eternally grateful for every person who supports our work to help so many
animals in need. As the economy continues to challenge families many pets have
sadly been turned over to us for financial reasons. This places an additional
strain on our already limited resources, but we will continue to do everything
we can to help these animals off to a new start in loving and lifetime homes.
So, thank you for your support
not only to our shelter, but to our cause by speaking out for the welfare of all
the animals we are charged to protect.
The Board and Staff wish you a
very Merry Christmas and a bright New Year full of Wags and Purrs!
Rea Cord Director Humane Society of Elmore County,
Inc.

Are you looking to give a horse in need a safe, happy and
lifetime home?
While we don't have any at our shelter, Anna Shaw at Seven Oaks Stables in
Montgomery County has done an incredible job working with the Montgomery Humane
Society and Montgomery County Law Enforcement in investigating and taking on any
seized horses as a result of those investigations. Most of these horses come to
her virtually starved to death and she has nursed them back to health and is
working diligently to find them the kind of homes where they will never again be
hungry or thirsty and will always be loved. Some of these may be able to go back
under saddle and some just need a loving home to live out their days in comfort
and peace. If you have the facilities, space, time, money and love to give just
one of these horses a better life than they had, please contact Anna so you can
go visit these wonderful survivors. Email Anna at
soec@bellsouth.net for more information
as to adoptable horses.
On
22 Dec '08, the River Region Runners Club graced us with a $250 donation to help
our animals. Pictured here is Pete Preston, President of the River Region
Runners (R3), presenting the check to Rea Cord, Shelter Director. Thanks to all
the great 'R3' members for having faith in our work to help so many animals in
need!

Eleven year old Savannah Rigby from Titus certainly impressed us on 17 December
by bringing us over $220 she collected by having a yard sale and just saving and
asking for donations on behalf of our animals. Thank you Savannah for this
wonderful Christmas present and we will put it to good use to help some of the
very special animals in our care. View

We now have yet another way for you to help our pets! All of our pets
posted on www.Petfinder.com now
have a “Sponsor Me” button to make it that much easier to sponsor a pet and help
us help our animals. When you see this link
all of your dollars will go to help us
care for that pet and we thank Petfinder for such a great program to help even
more pets find loving and lifetime homes.
The Alabama Animal Alliance, Inc. has opened a
groundbreaking facility to combat our area's severe pet overpopulation problem.
It is well known that there are far too many healthy, adoptable dogs and cats
than there are responsible homes for them. As a result, every day animals are
euthanized in area shelters or left to fend for themselves along our county
roads. The clinic
provides low-cost spay/neuter services to the cats and dogs of
central and south Alabama.
