We offer the following programs to help shelters and rescue organizations.

Worldwide Shelter Directory

Our goal is to provide the most comprehensive and up-to-date directory of shelters and animal rescue organizations around the world. If your address or contact information changes at any time, make sure that you let us know so that we can update your listing.

The Worldwide Shelter Directory is used for a number of purposes: (1) a general listing of shelters and animal rescue organizations by country and state, (2) a contact point for people looking to adopt a pet, (3) a contact point for people searching to find a lost pet, and (4) a way for you to publicize to the world where your shelter is located and what you do.

Outreach for the Animals Program also known as OFTAnet

Please make sure that we have your shelter's email address so that you participate in this very important program. The purpose of OFTAnet is to help shelters in their adoption efforts and as an outreach to their community regarding lost and found pets.

Lost and Found Pets Program helps lost animals return home safely by notifying as many shelters and rescue organizations as we are able to get the information to them quickly in case the animal was picked up and is currently in residence. We do this for a number of reasons: (1) sometimes pet owners, for whatever reason, are not able to followup as well as they should about their lost pet, (2) many shelters have a short holding period and too quickly have to make life and death decisions, and (3) the shelters who have this information are able to make better decisions if they are aware who an animal is and/or that someone is looking for him/her.

Pet Adoption Program helps shelters find homes for their resident animals. This is a community outreach program to bring people to their local shelters in an effort to find good loving homes for homeless animals as well as assist the shelter in increasing operating funds through adoptions. Because of this program's ability to bring in additional capital for the shelter, this program is considered a bonus program and is limited to only those shelters and rescue organizations participating in the Lost and Found Pets Program and who handle adoptions to the public.

We send OFTAnet notices only to the shelters and animal rescue groups that are effected by the particular notice and under no circumstance do we distribute, rent or sell your email address to anyone else. There is not an overload of mail being produced by these lost and found messages. Some locations never receive them.

Because of the amount of work involved from our end, we are not able to separate out breeds or even cats from dogs in these notices. We ask your understanding in this matter and, if a notice does not apply to you, to just delete it. But if you would rather not receive these notices just write a polite letter to us asking to be removed from the shelter notification listing. Please include your shelter's name and state that you are located in. Please do not take our messages as spam and (double-please) do not place us on any anti-spamming lists. We are only following our mission to help homeless and displaced animals.

HumaneWorld

HumaneWorld Network is a community for animal sheltering and rescue organizations. We invite all animal shelters to join HumaneWorld Network and share in the Humane Benefits program, as well as to join in the discussion lists for Shelter Workers (ShelterTalk), Shelter Managers, Officer and Directors (ShelterBiz), and Animal Rescue (RescueTalk).

Snuggles Project

Snuggles are security blankets for shelter animals. People make them for us to distribute to shelters who can use them. They are made out of yarn or fabric, either crocheted, knitted, quilted, or sewn. They are placed in the cages and kennels to give physical and psychological comfort to the animals as they await their new homes. We mark the shelters who participate in this program with a red star in the Worldwide Shelter Directory so that people will know that they can donate locally to those shelters marked. Please let us know if your shelter would like to participate too. You can read more about our Snuggles Project on our website or by sending an email message to Snuggles Project Help Desk.

If you indicated that you would like to receive Snuggles, make sure that all Snuggles donations use a Snuggles Local Donation Form so that we can keep track of the work that we are able to do. If you would like a supply of these forms to keep on hand just let us know and we'll send you some or you can get the Local Donation Form directly from our website by clicking this link.
